NEW DELHI : Police filed a chargesheet in a city court against Indian Air Force officer Arun Marwah, who was arrested on February 9 on charges of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-services Intelligence.

The special cell, the anti-terror unit of the city police, has chargesheeted group captain Marwaha under sections of the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said that the chargesheet was filed on April 7.

The 54-year-old para-instructor, posted as joint director(operator) at the airforce headquarters i n New Delhi, was allegedly sending classified air force documents to two cell phone numbers on Whatsapp.

Police said Marwah believed he was sending the documents to two women Kiran Randhawa and Mahima Patel, whom he had befriended on Facebook around six months before his arrest.

Police said they suspect the two Facebook accounts were created by the inter-services intelligence to honey trap Indian defence personnel.

Attaching copies of four classified documents related to the training exercise of the Marine Commando Force (MARCOS) and GARUD Commando Force, police said in the chargesheet that Marwah was honey trapped into sending such documents

Police reportedly attached Marwaha’s confessional statement in which he has reportedly confessed to have been in touch with the two women for the last four months. Marwah allegedly exchanged lewd messages with them, which escalated to sending classified data.

Many other documents recovered from his house has been attached in the chargesheet.

A senior officer said police attached statements of Marwah’s colleagues as evidence against him. Some of his colleagues have reportedly confirmed Marwah was using a smartphone inside the air force headquarters, which is against the rules.

Police attached the records of the Whatsapp conversation from that phone. Marwah had allegedly used the smartphone to take pictures of those documents and send it to the two numbers.

The officer said police have explained in the chargesheet how Indian security personnel are being lured into spying by the use of fake profiles on social media.
