LUCKNOW/UNNAO: There was an uneasy calm in Unnao, the village of the 18-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his aides, on Tuesday, following the death of her father in judicial custody.

The MLA’S sprawling house is barely 100 metres from the survivor’s dilapidated house, where a heavy police force has been deployed after her father’s death to avert any trouble.

“Who will speak against vidhayak ji (the MLA) when we have to spend our life here in the village,” said a local on condition of anonymity.

He said that he always knew that the matter would take a serious turn, as the girl’s family was not willing to surrender before the MLA.

“Enough police force, including provincial armed constabulary, has been deployed in the village to avert any trouble as well as ensure safety of the victim’s family,” said circle officer of Safipur, Kunwar Bahadur Singh, who has been camping in the village since Monday.

The survivor’s family, too, is staying at a hotel in Unnao city since Monday and had not returned to the village till late Tuesday evening.

The survivor’s uncle said he received multiple calls from the MLA and his aides to settle the matter. He said Unnao district magistrate Ravi Kumar and superintendent of police Pushpanjali Devi have assured safety of his family, but for precaution asked them to stay in Unnao City till situation turned normal.
