NEW DELHI: Housing will be the focus area for the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) this financial year with the Lieutenant Governor on Wednesday approving ₹3,663 crore for construction of dwelling units across the national Capital.

The DDA in its board meeting approved a total budget of ₹ 8,032 crore for 2018-19, which it said was an increase of 67% over the revised budget estimate of ₹5,295 crore in 2017-18. The housing agency has proposed 15 development schemes and 14 housing related development projects in its 2018-19 budget.

The agency said that pilot projects on in-situ rehabilitation at Kalkaji where 3,024 EWS dwelling units will be built are under progress. Other to such project include one at Jailorwala Bagh (1,675 EWS flats) and Kathputli Colony (2800 EWS flats).

“An amount of ₹3,633 crore has been earmarked for construction of houses and shops in the budget. Besides, ₹ 2,348 crore will be spent on development of land. To transform Delhi into a world class city, request for proposal (RFP) for developing vacant area available at Dwarka, Rohini and Narela have been floated,” a DDA spokesperson said.

In June, the DDA is going to launch its 2018 housing scheme with nearly 21,000 flats on offer. The authority has promised that flats in this scheme are going to be better and bigger than its previous two schemes. Also, unlike its previous schemes, DDA won’t include flats that were surrendered in earlier schemes.

Seeing the tepid response from people in increasing the floor area ratio (FAR) of planned commercial centres, the authority announced a slew of measures to simplify the application process. “For ease of doing business, it was felt to make apportionment of FAR simple, transparent and online with minimum human intervention. For this a fixed factor or quotient of enhanced FAR shall be put on the web site,” the spokesperson said.

The authority has also approved modifications in the unified building by-laws (UBBL) 2016 such as simplification of forms and omission of bond or affidavit to allow smooth operations in the building permit process.

“Also, self declaration undertakings will be accepted instead of attestation by notary public or metropolitan magistrate on nonjudicial stamp papers,” said the official.

The authority has decided that 794 LIG or one-bedroom flats — 574 in Sector-34 Rohini and 220 flats at Siraspur — would be allotted to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.

The board also approved construction of five socio cultural centres in Rohini, Dwarka, CBD Shahdara, Mayur Place and Netaji Subhash Place. Besides, it will also develop 25 hectare area surrounding the Sultangarhi Tomb Conservation Complex in Vasant Kunj.

A statement released by the DDA mentions that the agency will also undertake rejuvenation and restoration of the river Yamuna.

However, when Hindustan Times asked the specific details, officials said they cannot give a detailed plan for it.
