NEWDELHI: The Delhi Police have traced a 22-year-old woman nearly six years after she was allegedly abducted from her house in Dwarka. The woman, then a minor, was found to be living with a man in UP’S Bahraich on Tuesday.

Her husband, accused of abducting her, was briefly arrested before he was granted bail and the woman was reunited with her parents. However, with the woman expressing willingness to live with her husband and her parents deciding to make amends with him, the police will now approach a court to get the FIR registered in 2012 cancelled.

On the history of the case, deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said that on December 20, 2012, the girl’s father approached them. “Upon his statement, a case of kidnapping was registered at police station Dwarka North and investigation was taken up. However, the girl could not be traced and the case was on the back burner,” said Singh.

Singh said that as per the standard operating procedure, before closing such cases, a final drill has to be done.

“In this process, the investigating officer scanned the files and found a few phone numbers which were a part of the record. We dialled these numbers and analysed their records and some were found to be functional,” said Singh. Through a series of these calls police managed to track down the woman and contacted her. “She was initially dodging the police and gave us different replies to questions on her whereabouts. We built technical surveillance and tracked her down to Bahraich,” said Singh.

Her husband told the police that he was 23 when he eloped with minor girl and later they married and settled down.

“They lived at various places in Uttar Pradesh but for last two years they had been living in Baharich. Now, they have two children, aged four and two,” said Singh.
