Woman dies after ‘jumping off’ Wazirabad flyover

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old woman allegedly killed herself by jumping off a flyover in north Delhi’s Wazirabad near Timarpur on Wednesday morning. The identity of the woman could not be established till late evening, police said.

A police officer said her body has been preserved in a government hospital’s mortuary for identification. No suicide note was found either from the woman’s possession or the accident spot. “The cause of her alleged suicide can be ascertained only when the woman is identified and her family members are questioned,” said the officer.

Around 10.30am, the officer said, the police control room was informed that a woman had jumped down from Wazirabad flyover. A police team reached and rushed the injured woman to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

“We found her wearing gold jewellery. But no identification documents were found on her,” said the officer. NEWDELHI: A 19-year-old woman, who protested against two boys for passing lewd comments against her, was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon and molested at Nangloi in West Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, according to the police.

While the injured woman was rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and released after administering first aid, the accused, identified as Mohd Asim, 21, has been arrested.

According to the police the woman had gone to a bank in Nangloi and while standing in the queue she had an argument with Asim. When she came out of the bank Asim and his friend attacker her with a sharp weapon and slashed her elbow.

The woman was also allegedly molested.

Police has registered a case of outraging of modesty of a woman and causing hurt by dangerous weapons.

Police are further investigating the case.
