Elderly victim’s son ‘succumbs to injuries’

NEWDELHI: The son of a 60-year-old man, who was killed last month after being thrashed by his neighbours following a quarrel over distributi­on of water, died early on Thursday morning from injuries he had suffered during that day’s attack. The incident had taken place in Wazirpur.

Rahul Kumar, son of Lal Bahadur, died during treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital on Wednesday, Rahul’s brother Rohit Kumar said .

Aslam Khan, deputy commission­er of police (northwest), however, said they are waiting for the Rahul’s autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death. “We were not told that the son was injured in the attack. He was not admitted to any hospital then. Action will be taken once we get his autopsy report,” she said.

Later in the day, around 100 people, including family members, relatives and neighbours, protested the twin deaths and blocked traffic on Wazirpur main road for almost an hour.

“My brother had received chest injuries in the attack. He often complained of chest pain and was taking medicines from a local chemist. Three days ago, he complained of severe pain and we admitted him to a hospital in Ashok Vihar,” said Rohit.

According to Rohit, doctors at the hospital told him that his brother had suffered a blood clot in one of his veins due to the attack and because of that he was not able to breathe properly. “When my brother’s condition detoriarat­ed, the doctors referred him to RML hospital where he died on Thursday,” added Rohit.

Rahul’s father was Lal Bahadur was attacked and killed on March 17 when he tried to mediate in an altercatio­n between his sons and neighbours over distributi­on of water from a tanker. Three men have been arrested and a minor apprehende­d for the case.
