Delhi Police nabs interstate criminal from Vasant Kunj

NEWDELHI: A 24-year-old man has been arrested by Delhi Police’s Special Cell for alleged involvemen­t in abduction of a businessma­n at gunpoint from Delhi Airport in 2015, police said.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said the accused, Ansar, was wanted in several cases across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai. Ansar was nabbed on April 10 from Nelson Mandela Marg in Vasant Kunj. He was absconding since 2015 and Delhi Police had declared a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest.

“During questionin­g, Ansar disclosed that he along with his associates had abducted a businessma­n at gun point from Delhi Airport i n 2015. They had demanded Rs 50 lakh as ransom. When police raided Hathiya village in Uttar Pradesh where they had held the hostage, the accused had run away from the spot, leaving the victim behind,” said Kushwah.

Police said that Ansar is an interstate criminal from Mewat region. He was wanted in a case of dacoity in Uttar Pradesh and a case of abduction for ransom in Mumbai. During investigat­ion, police found that Ansar has shifted his base to Gujarat after the arrest of his associate Tarif by the Special Cell of Delhi Police. Raids were conducted in his suspected hideouts in Mewat, Rajasthan and Gujarat, but every time he had escaped.

Kushwah said that Ansar was held after secret informatio­n was received about him on April 10. It was found that he was coming to Vasant Kunj area to meet his associates and further commit some crime. A trap was laid and Ansar was apprehende­d around 6.30 pm on Nelson Mandela Marg.
