NEWDELHI: A 32-year-old woman is battling for her life after she was stabbed multiple times in southeast Delhi’s Jasola, allegedly by a man over a monetary dispute on Wednesday evening. The accused has been arrested.

The victim Neetu Sharma, a housewife from Greater Noida, had gone to pick up the money which she allegedly had lent the accused, identified only by his first name Anwar, according to her brother Anshu Kumar.

“Anwar had called her to Jasola saying that he would settle the dues with her, but when she went there, he stabbed her,” said Kumar.

An eyewitness told the police that he had seen Neetu and Anwar talking to each other, however, the conversation soon turned into a verbal argument. Anwar then allegedly took out a knife and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing the spot, the eyewitness reportedly told the police.

Two policemen who were patrolling in the area rushed Neetu to Apollo Hospital from where she was referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

DCP (south east) Chinmoy Biswal said a case of attempt to murder had been registered.

Sharma has multiple stab wounds on her neck and chest. While her brother said that she was stabbed nearly a dozen times, police said she was stabbed four to five times.

The victim’s brother, who works in a BPO in Noida, said Anwar had borrowed ₹5 lakh to order to start a business.

“On Wednesday, Anwar called Neetu to come and collect money. Since he had never threatened us before, we did not expect him to attack her like this and hence she went alone,” said Kumar.
