Palwal killer attempts suicide in Neemka jail

FARIDABAD: Naresh Dhankar, a former soldier, who had allegedly killed six people in one night in Palwal on January 2, created a scare in Neemka Jail on Thursday when he locked himself in a washroom for more than two hours, officials privy to the matter said.

The incident took place after the accused had returned to the jail following his appearance in Palwal court. “It was around 7 pm on Thursday when we came to know that Dhankar had rushed inside the washroom and bolted the door from inside,” deputy superinten­dent of Neemka prison, Sachin Kumar said.

“Dhankar did not listen to our pleas to open the door for almost two-and-a-half hours. We had to finally break open the door to recover him,” he said.

He was taken to a government hospital for treatment. The jail authoritie­s also informed the local police and a case of attempt to suicide was registered in Sadar police station, Ballabgarh on Friday morning.

“He will be taken on production warrant for questionin­g,” said SHO Sadar Ballabgarh Ashok Kumar. The jail officials, however, said that Dhankar was kept under strict watch after Thursday incident.

Dhankar allegedly attacked six strangers in different parts of Palwal town in the wee hours of January 2. He himself had received i njuries and was rushed to BK Hospital in Palwal.

He was then referred to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi. After the uproar, police constitute­d SIT to probe the case.

The accused was nabbed from Adarsh Nagar colony area where he was allegedly attacking his seventh target, who escaped with minor injuries.

Resident of Faridabad’s Machgar, Dhankar was living in Omaxe residentia­l society in Palwal alone as his relation with his wife was not good who along with her eight-year-old son lived with her parents.

“Due to his aggressive behaviour, I preferred to stay away from him,” Seema, Dhankar’s wife had told HT.
