NEWDELHI: A six-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a 14-year-old boy who lived with his family in the same building. She was alone at her home in northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad on Monday when the boy assaulted her.

Police said the girl suffered injuries in her private parts. The girl was admitted to a government hospital where she is recuperating. Her condition was stated to be out danger, police said.

Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police (northeast), said the minor boy, who was absconding after the crime, was apprehended on Tuesday.

A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) act, which deal with rape with minor girls, was registered at the Gokulpuri police station. The FIR was registered on the statement of the girl and her parents’ complaint. The girl’s father works in a private company.

On Monday, a police officer associated with the case said, the girl’s father, who owns the building, had left for work. Her mother also went out for chores, leaving the child alone. The 14-year-old boy, who lives with his family on rent in the first floor of the building, came to her flat and started playing with her.

Finding the girl alone, the boy allegedly forced himself on her. When she screamed, he allegedly threatened to kill her and her parents. The boy fled when he saw the girl bleeding. The girl’s mother returned to found her daughter crying. She had blood on her clothes, said the officer.

“The girl initially remained silent as she was scared. But when the mother comforted her, she broke down and told her about the sexual assault. The woman informed her husband and called the police control room,” added the officer.
