Grand welcome for Sanjita and Mirabai
IIMPHAL: Manipuri weighliftersSaikhom Mirabai Chanu and Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu, who made India proud at the Commonwealth Games, were accorded hero’s welcome as they returned home on Thursday.
Hundreds of young weightlifters from Sports Authority of India, officials of state sports department and Manipur weightlifting body, besides family members were present at the airport to receive the gold medallists. “To achieve our goals we have to be patient and work hard. I hope other athletes in our state will also make the country proud,” said Mirabai ,who won India’s first gold in Gold Coast in the women’s 48 kg weightlifting.

Manu Bhaker and Om Prakash Mitharwal missed out on a medal and finished fourth in the 10m mixed team air pistol event after shooting a qualification world record in the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.
The Indian pair shot a qualification world record (778), surpassing the German couple Christian and Sandra Reitz, who won silver after qualifying in fifth place.

Indian men and women’s compound teams advanced to the bronze medal play-offs on a day of disappointments in stage one of the Archery World Cup in Shanghai.
