Death overs biggest concern, says Chahal

BANGALORE: Among the major letdowns for Royal Challengers Bangalore this season has been the bowling. Barring Yuzvendra Chahal and Umesh Yadav, who have somewhat managed to rein in the opposition, everyone has leaked runs leaving skipper Virat Kohli in a bit of a quandary.

Leg-spinner Chahal, who has been Kohli’s trump card over the years in this team, hinted that rains have played a role in hampering their performance.

“This wicket is a bit dry and helpful for spinners. We are told that it is a batting surface. (However), it (wicket) is not fully prepared as it has been raining regularly. It is good that we scored 200 here, (although) they chased,” said Chahal ahead of the match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The leggie admitted that bowling the death overs is a primary concern now for the team after what happened in the previous games against Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni & Co tore into pacemen Corey Anderson and Mohammed Siraj towards the end after RCB had CSK on the mat at one point.

“Sundar (who has given away runs at close to 9.5) is bowling well. Sometimes you do get hit. The wicket is a bit slow. We have been bowling well but we have been giving away too many runs in the death overs, so we need to focus on that a bit,” he said before adding that CSK batsmen were just too good the other day.

Among the many battles within the big battle between KKR and RCB will be the one between spinners.

While RCB’S main strength has been spinners, like last year, KKR too have a good spin attack led by Sunil Narine with Chahal’s India spin twin Kuldeep Yadav also in the ranks.
