Five people arrested for vandalising house of Ghaziabad cleric
GHAZIABAD/NEWDELHI: The Ghaziabad police on Saturday arrested five persons, including three women, for allegedly vandalising the house of the cleric who operated a madrasa at a locality under Sahibabad police station. A 10-year-old girl, who had been missing, was recovered by Delhi police from the madrasa on the night of April 22.
The Delhi police have already apprehended a teenager for alleged rape and also under provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. A Delhi court also sent the cleric of the madrasa to one-day police custody on Saturday, a day after he was arrested by police.
On Friday, some members of Jai Shiv Sena had vandalised the house of the cleric along with some locals. “Following this, we have arrested two persons from Jai Shiv Sena. We have also arrested three women who vandalised cleric’s house. We are looking at the role of other people who attacked his house on Friday. Those found involved will not be spared. We are also trying to track other unidentified persons who helped the attackers,” said Akash Tomar, superintendent of police (city).
The police have identified the two men as Amit Tyagi and Lalit Chaudhary while the women were identified as Kiran, Pushpa and Namita. The three are residents of the same locality.
The 10-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted and taken to madrasa, was the resident of the same locality till April 18. She went missing from her home two days after her family moved to Delhi. She was later recovered by the Delhi police from the madrasa in Ghaziabad. Her parents have since demanded the arrest of those accused in her abduction and rape. “We have deployed police personnel in the area and at the madrasa. No one will be allowed to take law and order in their hand,” Tomar added.
Those arrested were booked for rioting, trespass, act intended to outrage religious feelings and causing damages. They were also slapped with stringent provisions of the 7 Criminal Law Amendment Act.
