2 girls critical after fire breaks out at production unit in Jahangirpu­ri

NEWDELHI: Two minor girls were severely burnt after a fire broke out in a bulb holder manufactur­ing unit i n north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpu­ri on Saturday.

While Muskaan’s (14) father owns the unit, Payal (12) is the daughters of a worker. A fire department official said that Muskaan had received 80 per cent burns and Payal had received 70 per cent burns. They are both said to be critical.

The official added that they received a call at 9.08am about a blast at the unit that had lead to fire.

“Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was doused by 10.10am and the two girls were rescued,” he said.

A police officer said there was a gas leak from an LPG cylinder in the room when the fire started.

Additional deputy commission­er of police (north-west) AK Lall said they have registered have registered a case under section 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire ), 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 337 (causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

“The injured are undergoing treatment at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. “Muskaan’s father Abdul Hamid owns the unit on the ground floor. The family stays on the first floor. Payal stays with her family close to the unit,” Lall added.

The unit has been sealed and the police are trying to find if there were other violations.
