NEW DELHI: Three armed men barged inside a jewellery shop in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh and robbed gold worth nearly Rs 3 lakh on Saturday afternoon.

According to the police, the robbery was reported at a shop called JD Jewellers in AB Block market around 2.30pm. A senior police officer said that the men had come on a bike.

“They parked the motor cycle outside the shop and entered the shop wearing helmets, armed with country made firearms. When they struck, the shop owner BP Arora and some of his staff members were present at the shop. They were held at gunpoint and some jewellery kept in the shop taken away by the men,” said additional deputy commissioner of police (north west) AK Lal.

As many as seven persons were present inside the shop at the time of the incident. The men were all made to sit in a corner as the men picked up one gold chain and a necklace set and sped away from the spot, the police said.

The articles robbed weigh close to 105 grams and along with the making charges is estimated to be worth around Rs 3 lakh, another officer said.

After the men fled, the jeweller raised an alarm and made a PCR call. Following the incident, the police have registered a case of robbery and have accessed the CCTV footage from the cameras installed outside the shop to identify the men. However, due to the covered faces, the clue has not helped police to establish their identity.

Later in the day, the police learnt from their informers that the suspects were somewhere in northwest Delhi. Though a raid was conducted, the men allegedly managed to flee before the police team got to the spot.

“We have registered a case of robbery and under the Arms Act. Efforts are on to trace the robbers,” said Lal. NEWDELHI: The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons for allegedly posting a fake tweet in the name of journalist Rana Ayyub.

On Thursday, Ayyub and her lawyer Vrinda Grover had filed a criminal complaint at the Saket Police station in response to the fake tweet on the Kathua case and morphed videos and images. They had demanded that those behind the fake social media post be booked under the IPC and IT act.

A criminal case under relevant sections has been registered on the complaint by Rana Ayyub. The district cyber cell has launched a probe.
