One dead, 7 injured after buses collide in Noida

NOIDA: At least one person was killed and seven others were injured when a private luxury bus collided with a Delhi Transport Corporatio­n (DTC) bus in Noida on Sunday morning.

According to police officials, the accident occurred around 7am when a DTC bus bound for Delhi met was hit by the luxury bus near Noida stadium.

“The private bus was coming from Farrukhaba­d . At the traffic intersecti­on of Sector 21, near the Noida stadium, the driver sped while trying to cross the intersecti­on. The private bus then rammed into the left side of a DTC bus that was coming from Chaura Morh,” said Manish Kumar Saxena, station house officer, sector 20 police station.

Police said one person was killed at the spot. Out of the seven injured, two were taken to Prakash Hospital while five others were rushed to the district hospital in Sector 30. The condition of two of the injured was stated to be serious, police said.

Police officials added that the DTC bus had only eight passengers on board and none of them were injured in the accident. “Since the DTC bus only had a few passengers at the time of the accident, the casualty count is low,” said Saxena.

The deceased, identified as Ashotush Kumar, 23, was a resident of Hardoi. He was declared brought dead at Prakash Hospital, hospital authoritie­s said.

“One of the injured, Joginder, is in a serious condition and has a fracture in his leg and has also sustained some head injuries. We will have to see whether the patient needs to undergo surgery,” said Dr Aruna of Prakash Hospital.

According to Joginder, who works as a driver in Greater Kailash-2, Delhi, the accident took place while he was on his way back to Delhi from his home in Farrukhaba­d. “I am getting married on May 11and had gone home for a pre-wedding ceremony. The accident took place while I was on my way back home. There was a loud impact. After that I lost con- sciousness and don’t remember anything,” said the victim.

Police officials have not been able to assess exactly how many people were travelling in the luxury bus. “By the time we reached the spot, a lot of people had already left,” said the SHO. He added that the driver of the private bus, Laxman, fled the scene but was later caught.
