NEW DELHI : Two men have been arrested for allegedly shooting at a man and robbing his mobile in Karawal Nagar last week. The victim objected to his friend going on a date with one of the arrested, which provoked the firing, said the police.

Deputy commissioner of police (north east) Atul Kumar Thakur said the arrested men have been identified as Mohammad Furkan alias Shanu and Deepak Kumar, both 22-yearold, who work as labourers in a jeans factory.

“On April 27, we received a call about an injured man, Aas Mohammad. Police admitted him to the hospitals and he told the cops that he had been called by Shanu at the spot. He alleged that Shanu came with Kumar and another man. The three tried to snatch Mohammad’s phone,” said Thakur.

Thakur said when the victim resisted, the three men fired at him and a bullet hit his right arm. The accused took his mobile phone and fled.

Mohammad also told the police that Shanu had gone on a date with a friend of the victim some days ago. “Mohammad was upset due to this and had confronted Shanu. The two had an argument and to exact revenge, Shanu planned the shooting,” said Thakur.

Based on his statement, a case under sections 392 (robbery) and 397 (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and under the Arms Act was registered at the Karawal Nagar police station and investigations taken up.

“The CCTV footage from the vicinity were also examined. On the analysis of technical surveillance and after sustained examination, we zeroed in on the location of the duo in Ghaziabad and arrested them on April 28. The country made pistol used in the shooting was also seized. Efforts are on to arrest the third accused,” said Thakur.
