L-G reviews traffic preparedness at two new Metro stations
NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday reviewed the preparedness to handle the projected traffic congestion after the opening of the Chirag Dilli and Greater Kailash-2 Metro stations. He directed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to barricade footpaths and segregate lanes for auto rickshaws and private vehicles.
Chirag Dilli and Greater Kailash -2 metro stations on the magenta line are expected to be opened by the end of this month after the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety inspects the 25.6-km section between Janakpuri West and Kalkaji Mandir between May 8 and 10. Of the Janakpuri WestBotanical Garden corridor, a 12.6-km section has been opened from Botanical Garden to Kalkaji Mandir.
According to officials at the L-G’S office, the brief meeting focused on ensuring better traffic management around Chirag Dilli and Greater Kailash -2 metro stations. In the meeting, the traffic department and the DMRC presented their plans to regulate the crowd and traffic around these two stations.
“The L-G directed both the agencies to further fortify their plans and ensure people coming out of metro stations do not scatter on roads and hinder traffic flow. Private vehicles and autorickshaws should pick and drop the passengers inside the station premises but not on the roads,” an official at the L-G office said.
Baijal said the authorities should ensure that the stations should not become choke points. The L-G directed traffic police here for strict enforcement.
