NEWDELHI: A 50-year-old businessman was held after a member of the cabin crew of a foreign airline alleged that he touched her inappropriately and abused her when she objected to him drinking on board a Moscow-delhi flight on Wednesday morning. Police have detained the man and registered a case of molestation against him.

The police said they got a call from the airline at 3am reporting that a man had sexually harassed one of their cabin crew members on board the flight. “As told by the complainant, a textiles businessman was consuming alcohol inside the plane. When one of the cabin crew members objected to this, he started shouting at her.when she returned to the kitchen, he followed her and tried to hold her. When the other staff intervened, the man touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her,” said a senior police officer.

The airline crew then called up the police and also asked the Central Industrial Security Force for assistance. As soon as the plane landed, the CISF men took the man in their custody and handed him over to the Delhi Police.

DCP IGI, Sanjay Bhatia confirmed the incident and said a case under sections 354 (for molestation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) has been registered and efforts to ascertain the allegations are being made. “No arrest have been made so far and the matter is being probed,” Bhatia said.
