North Corp to focus on big establishments
NEW DELHI: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday constituted special committees in Narela and Rohini zones in order to shift focus of the anti-encroachment drive from small stalls to identifying major encroachments.
The move came after the Supreme Court on Thursday observed that the Special Task Force (STF), formed to take action against illegal encroachments, was taking action against poor people like tea stall owners on pavements, but appeared to be sparing the rich.
The North Corporation will identify major encroachments on busy stretches in next 48 hours, officials said.
“We took the decision late in the evening. After the SC observation, it was decided to shift the focus of the anti-encroachment drive on big shops and establishments. We will be taking action against them at a mass level,” said North Corporation official.
“These encroachments can be in the shape of public land covered by pucca structures and other development made in the area. The teams will have offi- cials from maintenance, building, health and licensing departments. The report will be submitted to deputy commissioner of the respective zones on Saturday,” said the official.
Continuing the action against the illegal vends encroaching upon the public land in Delhi, the North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporation targeted over 250 temporary and permanent structures in different areas on sixth day of the drive.
SDMC’S anti encroachment squads targeted violators on Aurbindo Marg from AIIMS to Lado Sarai T point, Nehru Place Metro station and Tamil Sangam Marg in RK Puram.
In North Delhi, action was taken from Jama Masjid to Kasturba Hospital, GT Road near Singhu Border, Begampur main road to Pooth Kalan, Inderlok Phase I, Rani Jhasi round about to Anand Parbat and Timarpur.
