NEWDELHI: The Delhi government will begin a trial launch of transport department’s mobile application “Delhi Transport” from Wednesday. From helping people register complaints against errant taxi and autorickshaw drivers to timings of inter-state buses from the city and application for driving license, it is an umbrella app for all transport related issues.

Senior transport department officials said they would ensure prompt response and action after receiving complaints on the app, which would help reduce cases of misbehaviour by the drivers.

“The trial will start from Wednesday and will continue for 15 days. After the trial is successful, it will be formally launched within a week,” special commissioner (transport) KK Dahiya said.

People depend on transport department’s helpline to lodge complaints against errant drivers. But the common peeve is that most complaints go unattended.

L-G Anil Baijal had earlier suggested the government to design an umbrella mobile application for all government services.

The transport commissioner said that during the trial, a beta version of the app would be launched to receive suggestions from the stakeholders to make the application more effective before its formal launch.

“Passengers will have to submit the photo of the vehicle with its registration number to lodge a complaint against the errant driver on the app. The system will auto-generate a notice to the driver against whom the complaint is filed. Through the notice, he will be summoned and will face action if found guilty,” the official said.

The app will also assist users in availing of services such as driving licenses, duplicate vehicle registration certificate, reporting about junk vehicles parked in public places and getting time table of the inter-state buses.

Dahiya said till now, there is no information portal for the time table of inter-state buses.

“This app will not only give the timings of the buses leaving for other states but will also tell the users from which ISBT it will leave. The app will also have information about the time table of local buses,” Dahiya said.

Delhi has three inter-state bus terminals.

The app will also enable the users to know about the safety parameters of the auto or cab they are travelling in by submitting its registration number.

“Once the registration number of the auto or taxi is provided in the app, it will instantly tell the passenger whether its GPS is functional or not,” he said.

“The app will be launched in both Android and IOS versions. Later, only select features would be provided on the IOS while Android version will have all the features. We will take some time to provide all tabs on the IOS version,” Dahiya said.

A control room has been set up by the department to track cabs and autos fitted with GPS devices to help passengers, especially women, in distress.
