HYDERABAD: Prithvi Shaw got the ultimate compliment when Australian batting great Mark Waugh compared the Delhi Daredevils teenager’s batting technique to Sachin Tendulkar’s.

One of India’s brightest batting talents, the 18-year-old Mumbai player has been on a roll. He had already had a sensational run on first-class debut for Mumbai before leading India to the 2018 U-19 World Cup.

His batting has come as a breath of fresh air for struggling Delhi Daredevils, not sacrificing technique despite having to tee off at the start of the innings.

Shaw has scored 205 runs at a strike-rate of 170.83, with two fifties. Former Mumbai and India batsman Pravin Amre, the DD INDORE: assistant coach, praised Shaw for his 65 in the loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.

“Prithvi is a special talent. I know from Mumbai when he was 14 years old. From school days he was making headlines, scoring 546 runs in Harris Shield. Then he came to first class and scored a ton on Ranji debut. He scored four tons in first-class last season. It’s different from scoring in a T20 game, it’s how you play in first class that really counts,”

“In U19 World Cup, he did well as a captain but for me what’s more important is that he got those 400 to 500 runs in firstclass. That shows maturity. IPL is a different opportunity and it’s good he is grabbing it. He has shown spark that he can get runs at this level against top bowlers.”

SRH’S Bhuvneshwar Kumar said, “He not only played well against us but he did so in the last match (47 vs RR). He is a great talent and any opponent would want his wicket early.” HYDERABAD:
