Neighbour held for alleged rape of nineyearol­d girl in Swaroop Nagar

NEWDELHI: A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl, his neighbour, in north west Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar on Friday night.

Deputy commission­er of police(north west) Aslam Khan said the police control room received a distress call from the child’s father around 8 pm on Tuesday.

The man told police that Sonu, known only by his first name, took his daughter to the bathroom of his rented house and raped her. Sonu, a labourer, dropped the minor girl outside her house after the crime.

Police said the family learnt of the incident when the child complained of pain in her private parts.

“She told her parents about her ordeal, after which they rushed her to a hospital. At the hospital, doctors confirmed she was raped and admitted her. We received informatio­n and reached the hospital,” an investigat­ing officer said.

A police team conducted raids in Swaroop Nagar and found Sonu at a bus stop. Police said Sonu, a Samaipur Badli resident, had gone to Swaroop Nagar five days ago and worked at a local constructi­on site.

DCP Khan said the child’s condition is stable. “I visited her at the hospital. Her condition is stable. We registered a case against Sonu.”

At least 694 rape cases have been reported from across the city this year(january 1 - till April 30). The number of cases in the same period last year was 657.
