NEW DELHI: A dispute over a 50 square yard property in east Delhi’s Jagatpuri led to a fight between three brothers and ended in the murder of the 55-year-old wife of the youngest sibling, police said.

Fareeda died after she was hit on her head by an iron pipe at her home in New Govindpura neighbourhood around 6.30pm on Wednesday, Pankaj Singh, DCP (east), said.

The officer said the eldest sibling, identified as 70-year-old Moosa Ali, had been arrested. A search is on for his four sons and a brother who too were involved in the fatal fight.

The three brothers have been identified as Moosa Ali, Shamshad and Haider. Fareeda was Haider’s wife and the couple have four children.

The family hails from Bijnor where they own some land. In Delhi, the siblings jointly own a three-storey building constructed over a 50 square yard plot.

“Haider and Shamshad live with their families in this building, but do not get along with each other. Haider owns a gar- ments shop while Shamshad earns his living by renting out another property. The third sibling Moosa Ali lives in nearby Khureji and runs a perfume business,” said the DCP.

They quarrelled often and mainly over the house in which two siblings lived. “Be it constructing a wall or dividing the terrace, the family would fight,” said the DCP.

On Wednesday evening, Moosa arrived at this house with his four sons and a quarrel over the property began again. Shamshad and Moosa allegedly ganged up against Haider and in his family.

“When the quarrel turned physical, someone in the family picked up an iron rod lying nearby and struck Fareeda on her head. She collapsed and was rushed to a hospital by her husband, but could not be saved,” said the officer. A murder case was registered at Jagatpuri police station. This is the second incident over the last 20 days in which fights within a family over property ended in a murder.

On April 26, two businessmen brothers and one of their wives were killed in a clash over parking dispute in Model Town in north Delhi.
