All women will get NCWEB registration
NEWDELHI: All women applicants to the Delhi University will be automatically registered with the Non-collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB), although admission will only be open to Delhi residents.
Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the deputy dean of students welfare, said that any female applicant, irrespective of her city of residence specified in the application, will be automatically registered for NCWEB programmes as well.
“At the time of admission, we will ensure that she is a resident of Delhi,” he said.
Last year, DU had started automatically registering all female applicants who said they were residents of Delhi for NCWEB’S programmes.
Explaining the need for automatic registration, NCWEB director Anju Gupta said, “A lot of NCWEB applicants come from marginalised backgrounds, and may not fill their applications properly. Many go to cafes to get their application forms filled, and they may make mistakes in the address. Last year, 100s of girls missed out on the opportunity, because they had not filled their address in the application properly, and they did not specify that they were residents of Delhi. We got a lot of complaints in the grievance cell also about this later,” said Gupta.
She said this year, there are 12,168 seats up for grabs in 26 centres. Each centre has 284 seats for BA programme, and 184 seats for Bcom programme.
The NCWEB is one of the ‘nonformal’ education centres at the Delhi University, where female students who are residents of NCT Delhi region can get admitted to either BA or Bcom programmes.
The students attend classes just once a week at the centres, assigned as per the cutoffs, which are slightly lower than the regular cutoffs.
Female students who wish to pursue other part-time courses and jobs while doing their undergraduate degree, or those who may not be able to come to college everyday for any given reason, would find the NCWEB ideal.
The first cutoff for NCWEB centres will come out on June 30, along with the third cutoff list for the rest of the university. Admissions under the first list will continue until July 3, before a second cutoff list on July 6.
