BHOPAL: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped and killed in Bhopal, with her autopsy showing signs of torture before she died, according to police.

The woman’s decomposed body was discovered after the stench forced neighbours to call in the police at the one-room tenement in Pragati Nagar locality of Bhopal. Police identified the victim as a resident of Icchawar town in Sehore district who had been living with a man in a rented accommodation. The man has been missing and police said the state of decomposition indicated she had been killed days ago.

“Though neighbours thought the couple was married, but their marital status is yet to be established,” said Sunil Shrivastava, the town inspector of Ashoka Garden. He added that the duo came from a humble background and hardly interacted with their neighbours. “While the woman mostly stayed at home, the man is said to be a labourer,” he said.

The couple had moved in to the house few months ago. “The house in which they were living is owned by a man who lives in Saudi Arabia,” said the police. The post-mortem report established rape and that she had been brutalised by two bottles. “We are investigating the matter and are trying to nab the man.”
