12-yr-old among 3 killed in accidents

NEWDELHI: Three people, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed in separate road accidents reported from across the city on Friday.

The first incident was reported from southeast Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area where a 12-year-old girl died and her 14-year-old brother was critically injured after a truck hit them on Friday morning. The two children were on their way to school when the accident took place.

Eyewitness­es told the police that the accident took place around 7am when the truck that was trying to overtake a bus, rammed a road divider where the two children, Ishrat and her brother Nishat, were waiting to cross the road to reach their school in Noor Nagar.

“The driver of the truck could not control the vehicle and ran over the two kids, leaving the girl dead. Her brother was rushed to Apollo Hospital where he is under treatment,” said a senior police officer.

Chinmoy Biswal, deputy commission­er of police (southeast), said the truck driver was identified as Pushpender, 28. “He was carrying building material in the truck and was going towards Noida. He has been arrested and a case under section 304A for causing death due to negligence and for rash driving registered,” the DCP said.

The child’s father is a tailor and was away at the time of accident to mourn his sister-in-law who had passed away earlier this week, police said.

In the second i ncident reported from Okhla, a BPO employee was killed while his four other colleagues were injured when a truck hit their office cab during the early hours on Friday.

DCP Biswal said the deceased was identified as Jai Kumar Saini, 27, a native of Jaipur. His four colleagues Nitesh Sood, Dushyant, Swaroop and Dharmender suffered injuries and have been discharged after treatment, the officer said.

“The accused truck driver fled from the spot. However, the number plate of the vehicle fell down near the spot and the truck was later found abandoned in Mahipalpur. The truck driver, identified as Shriram, a native of Bihar, is absconding and raids are being conducted to trace him,” Biswal said.

A 60-year-old woman, who was returning from Safdurjung Hospital with her son after her check-up, was killed on the Ring Road near Lajpat Nagar on Friday morning when an Indian Oil tanker hit the bike they were travelling on.

Police said the accident took place around 9.30 am when the woman and her son were returning home in Jaitpur while the truck was headed to Mayur Vihar.

“The truck driver, Kamlesh, 40, has been arrested,” the DCP said.
