NEW DELHI: The civic agencies faced mild resistance on Saturday as they continued to target squatters and illegally parked vehicles in Arya Samaj Road, Lajpat Nagar, Green Park, Safdarjung Enclave, Tilak Nagar, Geeta Colony, gandhi Nagar and Jagat Puri.

Two civil defence volunteers assisting the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in the anti-encroachment drive were injured on Saturday after encroachers threw stones at them, a senior official said.

The incident took place at the Tilak Nagar furniture market in the afternoon. The south, north and east Delhi municipal corporations cleared 15 kilometres in their jurisdictions, impounded 10 vehicles and removed at least 150 temporary and permanent encroachments.

“An intensive drive was carried at Arya Samaj Road in Karol Bagh from morning and we demolished the ramps of banks, showrooms and other commercial establishments constructed along a 1.5-kilometre stretch. We vacated 3,100 square metres of area encroached by a temple,” Nitin Promod, deputy commissioner of Karol Bagh zone, North Corporation, said.

At Tilak Nagar, where the teams faced resistance, the drive resumed and 30 vehicles, including 25 four-wheelers and 2 iron counters, were wither demolished or seized, an official said.

The south civic body also conducted a drive in congested localities of south Delhi such as Green Park Extension, RK Puram and Lajpat Nagar.
