NEWDELHI: In a plot straight out of a Bollywood movie, the Delhi Police have cracked the murder of eatery owner in east Delhi’s Shahdara by following a trail of blood left on the streets. The trail led investigating teams to the residence of one of the accused, Mohit Chand.

Police said Chand was part of the group that stabbed one Sahbuddin, 30, who ran an eatery in Ajeet Nagar area of Shahdara district. Chand himself had sustained a stab wound during the incident that took place late on Friday night.

According to the police, a brawl took place between Sahbuddin and four men over the payment of food on Friday.

Following the brawl, the men then allegedly stabbed the owner and fled.

Two people from the group were identified by the police, of who one was arrested. The remaining two men were yet to be identified by the police.

The deceased Sahbuddin was a native of Kishanganj in Bihar.

The police said on Friday, around 11.40pm, a PCR call was received about a person having been stabbed in Ajeet Nagar area.

Deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara), Nupur Prasad said when a police team arrived at the spot, they found a lot of blood on the streets.

“Local inquiry revealed that four-five men, who had gone to the deceased’s eatery to have dinner, had an argument with him over the food bill. The argument soon escalated and turned violent, with the men then pulling out knives and stabbing Sahbuddin multiple times. Seeing Sahbuddin collapse, while bleeding profusely, the men then fled. Sahbuddin was later rushed to Hedgewar hospital by neighbours, where he was declared dead,” Prasad said.

The deceased’s body was examined at the hospital and it was found that he had deep stab wounds on both sides of his chest, arms and thighs. “On minute examination of the crime spot, it was found that there were two trails of blood leading in two different directions. While one was confirmed as Sahbuddin’s blood, the other blood trail remained unidentified,” the DCP said.

“The police then followed the other trail of blood through narrow lanes of the locality for more than more than 200 metres and arrived at the doorsteps of a house. On searching the house, they found a man, later identified as Mohit Chand, who had a deep cut on his left thigh. Chand was also found to be under the influence of alcohol. Chand was taken to a hospital. Further inquiry revealed that Chand was involved in the brawl where Sahbuddin was killed,” the officer said.

Prasad said that while Chand had caught hold the deceased Sahbuddin from behind, one Sunil Pandit along with their two other associates stabbed Sahbuddin repeated times during the argument. “In the fight, Chand had accidentally suffered a stabbed wound. He is at present admitted in a hospital and is under treatment. While Pandit is absconding, efforts to identify the other two are being made,” said the DCP.
