Man bludgeoned to death in Narela

-

NEWDELHI: A 20-year-old man from Bihar was allegedly bludgeoned to death with a hammer by two men in a public park in outer Delhi’s Narela on Saturday night.

The victim’s body with multiple wounds on the head and on the face was found by a passerby around 6.30am on Sunday, police said. The victim was later identified as Sharavan Kumar Das

Police said one of the accused, who was Das’ friend, was enraged because he suspected Das of having an affair with his wife.

Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini), said the two men were arrested on Sunday. A hammer, that was allegedly used to kill Das, was recovered from them. The arrested men were identified as Sunil and Ajit.

DCP Gupta said Sunil, who worked in a factory in Narela, suspected that Das was having an affair with his wife in his absence. He had warned Das several times to stay away from his wife.

According to Gupta, Das had come to Delhi on Friday in search of a job and was staying at his cousin’s rented room in Narela. On Saturday afternoon, Das went out and did not return home.

Around 6.30am, the police control room was informed about a body lying in a park in Narela. Police found a mobile phone and some money in the man’s pocket. They contacted the victim’s family using the mobile phone and established his identity.

During the probe, police learnt that Das was last seen with Sunil. They interrogated Sunil, who initially feigned innocence but later confessed to the crime . Sunil’s interrogation led to Ajit’s arrest.

Sunil told police that he planned Das’s murder soon after he learnt about his arrival in Delhi. Sunil lured Das to the factory where he worked on the pretext of wanting to consume liquor. Ajit joined them and they drank liquor. “The three then went to Alipur and consumed liquor again. The two then brought Das to the park and attacked him the hammer ,” said an investigator.
