NEW DELHI: Smoke was reported from a Metro rail coach on Tuesday at Shadipur Metro station leading to immediate evacuation of the passengers. Senior officers from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said none of the passengers was injured. However, train operations were affected for a brief time.

CISF officers said passengers in the second coach of a train moving towards Noida saw smoke emanating from the air conditioner at 3.28pm. They alerted the driver of the train.

“The moment train entered the next station, Shadipur, a CISF team was rushed to the platform and all the passengers were asked to deboard the train,” said a senior CISF officer.

The officer said that there was no fire and the train was sent to Yamuna Bank depot.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, however, denied fire in a train coach. “There was no fire. Some problem was reported with the AC of one of the coaches. It was withdrawn without impacting mainline services,” a Metro spokesperson said.
