MUMBAI: The Supernovas registered a nervous three-wicket victory over The Trailblazers in an IPL Women’s Exhibition match at the Wankhede on Tuesday.

The contest featured some of the biggest names in women’s cricket such as Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Ellyse Perry, Meg Lanning, Suzie Bates and Danielle Wyatt. After being asked to bat, The Trailblazers scored 129/6 powered by Suzie’s 37-ball 32, with Megan Schutt and Ellyse claiming two wickets each.

Chasing 130 to win, The Supernovas ended the game on the last ball with Pooja Vastrakar scoring the winning run.

In their reply, The Supernovas were off to a strong start. The pair of Mithali (22) and England’s Wyatt (24) added 47 runs inside five overs to set their team a strong foundation.

Mithali set the tone early on smacking her Jhulan for a couple of boundaries in the first over, and turned up heat on Shikha Pandey, stepping down the track to hit the first six of the match. Mithali followed that spectacular stroke with a four.

Danielle followed soon when she lifted a delivery off Ekta Bisht over cover for the second six, but Supernovas were jolted immediately with Mithali falling for a 20-ball 24, caught by Beth Mooney.

Brief scores: The Trailblazers 129/6 in 20 overs (S Bates 32, J Rodrigues 25, M Schutt 2/18, E Perry 2/20) lost to The Supernovas 130/7 in 20 overs (D Wyatt 24, H Kaur 21, M Raj 22, S Bates 2/16, P Yadav 2/21) by 3 wkts.
