NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will announce the Class 12 results for the academic session 2017-18 on Saturday afternoon. As many as 11,86,306 students appeared for the exam from March 5 to April 13. The exams were held at 4,138 centres in India and 71 centres abroad.

Students can check their results at the websites of the board: www.cbseresults.nic.in, www.cbse.nic.in and www.results.nic.in after they are released. This year, students will also be able to check their results on Google search engine after putting in their details such as roll number and date of birth. Results can also be accessed through Microsoft’s search engine Bing.

CBSE officials said students can also send a text message on 7738299899 to get the result on their phones. Students from Delhi can call 011-24300699 and students from rest of the country can call 011-24300699 to know the results. Anil Swarup, secretary (school education and literacy) human resource development ministry tweeted, “All the best to the students who appeared in Class 12 CBSE exams. However, treat the result with equanimity. These exams are not the end of the world. Pat yourself on the back if you have done well. Any perceived failure should make you even more determined to succeed in future.”

The board exams were marred by controversy this year with incidents of leak of Class 10 Maths paper and Class 12 Economics paper. The board then decided to conduct a retest for Class 12 Economics paper on April 25 and put in place a special strategy to ensure there was no possibility of a paper leak.

The date for Class 10 results has not yet been announced. The CBSE will also begin its post-result counselling from 8am to 10pm everyday till June 9. “Telecounseling will provide services to parents and students to overcome psychological problems and general queries related to results,” the Board said. NEW DELHI: Registrations for School of Open Learning courses may not begin until July this year, as they are awaiting University Grants Commission’s approval, according to the distance learning institute’s officials.

Last year, SOL had begun registrations in on June 1, however, it may not start before July this year according to officials. “Open and distance learning institute’s need to take the UGC’S approval almost every year. This year, they have called institutes in for the scrutiny and interface meetings from June 15, where institutes will make their presentations, and this will probably go on till June 30,” said an official at the SOL, who asked not to be named.

UGC officials did not respond to request for comments on the issue. In these meetings, the commission checks how many courses the institutes offer, what are the kind of courses they offer, and if there are any new ones to be offered. They added that though such delays are common, the previous year they were able to begin the registrations in June itself, because in 2016 they had gotten the commission’s approval for two years.

“They should ideally give it for five years and we expect them to do so this year. So from the next academic year, we should not have problems,” said the authority.
