‘Don’t give college precedence over seat’

NEW DELHI: Students should take admission, and secure a seat if they clear a cutoff for their course of choice, even if it isn’t in the college of their choice, according to Delhi University officials.

This came up at the Open Days session on Monday, which was the first one after the CBSE’S Class 12 results were announced on Saturday. The event saw a full house, with students asking ques- tions ranging from how to calculate one’s best of four score, if there was a quota for girls, and whether DU offers Btech, among others. A parent asked what should the students do if they clear the first cutoff list for the course they want, but not in the college of their choice.

Amrita Bajaj, the deputy dean of students welfare, said that she would “strongly advise” to take admission as soon as one clears the cutoff.

Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, deputy dean of students welfare, explained that students should try and secure a seat first. They can always cancel their admission and go to another college of their choice.

“If you cleared the cutoff in the first list and did not take admission at that time, you can only take admission in the second list on the last day, that too if there are still seats remaining. By the third list, you have no right for admission,” he said.

A student had also asked about quota for girls, where Bajaj had said that while some colleges give a relaxation of 1% to girls, there is no specific quota.
