NEWDELHI: Police on Sunday said they have found an eyewitness to the accident in which a man riding a Harley Davidson motorbike went missing after his bike was hit by a car on the Delhi-noida-direct (DND) Flyway.

Pravesh, the driver of the Toyota Etios Liva car, which allegedly rammed into Harley bike, was arrested on Friday. The body of the victim, Anshuman Puri, is yet to be recovered.

Eyewitness Kailash has told police that the impact of the collision between the bike and the car was so powerful that the biker, 42-year-old Puri, was thrown across the bridge parapet and into the Yamuna.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast), Chinmoy Biswal, said, “We have analysed Puri’s cell phone records. His phone’s last location was near the DND flyway at the time he met with the accident. The phone is still switched off.”

Biswal said Kailash was riding his back home after attending a party when he saw the incident. “Kailash was contacted over the phone the same day but he was unavailable. But now his statement has been recorded,” he said, adding that Kailash is the only eyewitness who has approached police so far.

Maintaining that the driver of the car has corroborated Kailash’s statement to some extent, police said Pravesh has confessed to police that his car had hit the Harley bike on May 26.

He, however, claimed that he did not see what happened to the biker after the crash, police said.

Soon after the incident, police got in touch with the owner the Toyota Etios car — registered in the name of Bhappa Singh, a resident of Dwarka. Police, however, learnt from their neighbours that Singh is in Canada and that his daughter and son-in-law were using the car. When investigators contacted Singh’s relatives, they allegedly misled them by saying that their kin Nishant Bhatia was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. But when police analysed Bhatia’s phone records, they found that its location did not match the claims of his family.

“When confronted with the technical examination details, the family revealed that it was Pravesh who was driving the car and not Bhatia,” said Biswal.
