THE HEAD CONSTABLE, PRAMOD, WAS ON PATROL DUTY WHEN THE ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old Delhi Police head constable was critically injured after he was hit by a speeding scooter on which three men were riding in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony early Sunday morning. The head constable was on patrol duty when the accident took place.

Both the scooterist and the two pillion riders were riding without helmets. Police have arrested the scooter rider while the other two managed to flee. The three were on a joyride, police said. Police have impounded the scooter.

A senior police officer said head constable, Pramod, suffered serious injuries in his head, face, chest and hands. He was admitted to Lok Nayak hospital. His condition is stated to be out of danger.

The officer said the accident took place near the Geeta Colony cremation ground. Pramod and other policemen were checking and prosecuting vehicles that were found violating traffic rules. They had put barricades on the road to ensure the violators do not escape without checking.

“Around 1.30 am, three men were seen riding a scooter and approaching the barricades. An assistant sub-inspector signalled the rider to stop. However, the scooter rider tried to flee and in the process hit Pramod when he attempted to block their way,” said the officer. A case was registered and the scooter rider Taufiq,20, was arrested.
