Panchkula boy tops, Delhi’s Kalash ranks 3rd
NEWDELHI: Panchkula boy Pranav Goyal topped the All India Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) on Thursday with 337 marks out of 360 while Kota’s Sahil Jain and Delhi’s Kalash Gupta secured the second and third spots, respectively.
Kota’s Meenal Parekh emerged as topper among girls with 318 marks, and was ranked sixth overall.
Goyal, the son of a businessman who studied at a pri- vate school, said he was not a “bookworm” and made sure that he got his daily dose of entertainment. “If you focus well, your study hours won’t really matter. So, just stay focused and calm. Have faith in your teachers and their guidance, and always ensure that your knowledge is conceptually sound,” he said, adding that he wanted to study Computer Science engineering from Iit-bombay.
The choice of subject is common between him and Gupta, whose father works as a government official and mother works as a gynecologist in a private hospital. He said his aim is to join Iit-delhi or Iit-bombay.
Gupta said he was hoping for a good result but wasn’t expecting to be in the Top 3. “I was hoping to get a rank under 50 so that I could pursue Computer Science but getting rank 3 was totally unexpected,” he said.
A student of Amity International school, Saket, Gupta said he did not study for fixed hours every day and instead set study goals for himself that took varying amount of time to be completed. “Sometimes I would be left with free time in a day and sometimes there would be no time,” he said.
