HOW THE OPERATION UNFOLDED

-

The moment an alert was received about Rajesh Bharti and Sanjeet Vidrohi’s movements, a team of 30 was formed. Keeping in mind the gang’s notoriety, all 30 men were equipped with AK-47 rifles, MP5 guns and Glock pistols.

Since Bharti’s gang was expected to be heavily armed, 17 men from the special cell, who made up the intercepting party, donned bulletproof jackets.

A map of the area was drawn, men positioned at key areas.

The location where Bharti and his men were cornered was carefully chose. The street where the shootout took place had 8-9 feet wall on both sides to cut out the escape route of the criminals.

Ambulances were kept on standby. Two policemen followed Bharti and his aides on bikes and signalled the waiting police party after verifying Bharti’s presence in one car.

Six police cars intercepted the gangster’s vehicles and asked them to surrender. As the gang opened fire, the intercepting police team took cover. A second police team returned fire.

Around 150 rounds are fired claiming the lives of three wanted criminals - Rajesh Bharti, Sanjeet Vidrohi, Umesh Don.

Five weapons recovered from the accused along with a suitcase containing ₹2 lakh. Ambulances were called in and eight injured policemen and five gangsters were rushed to the trauma centre of All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
