NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday inaugurated a 66 KVA grid sub-station at south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri. The project by the BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) is likely to benefit around three lakh residents.

Addressing the crowd at the inauguration, Kejriwal said that the opposition did everything to stop the sub-station from being set up here. He said they even took the matter to court. But the area legislator fought and won the case and got the proposal passed by the government.

“There are several other areas where work needs to be done in the area and the work related to education, and infrastructure will be completed. We will never let cash crunch come in the way for developmental work,” Kejriwal said. Delhi’s power demand has been increasing at around 4-5% annually and the newly inaugurated sub-station is a part of future proofing of distribution network of the discom, he said.

Power minister Satyendar Jain and a few other AAP MLAS were present at the inaugural function.

BRPL CEO Amal Sinha said, “We are very confident that not only will BRPL continues to meet the ever increasing power needs of the area, but also continue to partner in the development of the national capital.”

Constructed at a cost of around Rs 45 crore, this 66 KVA grid substation is extremely critical to the growing power needs of the fast developing areas of South Delhi.

The grid sub-station will be unmanned and remotely controlled from the Supervisory Control and Data Access.

Looking at the increase in the power demand in the area, during 2018-2019, the discom plans to invest around Rs 12 crore in the Fatehpur Beri area, to further strengthen the network by undertaking several activities, the spokesperson said.

Kejriwal also brought up the issue of full statehood for Delhi in his address. “...If we were a full state the people of Delhi would not have to wait for the completion of their work. But because I am the quarter chief minister of a half state I have to fight to get things done for you,” he said.
