Bihar farmer’s son cracks IITJEE at 15
PRODIGY Shivam Kumar aspires to take up computer science; his elder brother cleared the JEE Advanced in 2012 when he was 13
KOTA: Fifteen-year-old Shivam Kumar from a village in Bihar cracked the JEE Advanced 2018 Sunday to possibly become the youngest aspirant this year to clear the examination for admissions to the premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITS).
Born on October 28, 2002, the farmer’s son from Bakhorpur village secured all-india rank 383 by scoring 241 marks out of 360 in the examination.
Incidentally, his elder brother Satyam was 13 years old when he cleared the JEE Advanced in 2012. “The managing director of Resonance Coaching Institute guided me and my brother to success in JEE,” Shivam said.
He said that studying regularly, keeping notes, revisiting and problem solving helped him clear the tough exam.
Shivam got around 92% marks in the Class 12 board exam held by the Central Board of Secondary Education and has been a National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) scholar.
NTSE is a prestigious national-level scholarship programme.
He came to Kota when he was five years old with Satyam as there were no good schools in their village.
He was given admission directly in Class 3 by a private school after he performed well in their entrance test.
Shivam, who aspires to take up computer science in any of the IITS, said that his uncle Rampukar Singh stayed with them in Kota during their schooling and coaching.
Shivam’s father Siddhanath Singh and mother Pramila Devi live in Bakhorpur.
“I am proud of both my sons, who have cracked a prestigious examination like JEE at such a tender age,” Siddhanath said.
Shivam’s elder brother Satyam is doing Mtech from IIT Kanpur and will pursue a programme at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.
“Shivam has successfully walked in the footsteps of his elder brother by cracking the JEE Advanced at the age of 15,” RK Verma of Resonance said.
