Boxer Nutlai settles for bronze in Astana

NEW DELHI: Indian boxer Nutlai Lalbiakkim­a (49kg), who upstaged Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov in the quarter-finals, settled for a bronze along with two others after a semi-final loss in the President’s Cup in Astana. The 22-year-old lost to Erzhan Zhomart.

BIDHURI ENTERS FINAL

NEW DELHI: World Championsh­ip bronze medallist Gaurav Bidhuri (56kg) advanced to the final of the Umakhanov Memorial boxing tournament in Kaspiysk, Russia, by beating local pugilist Magomed Shakhbanov.

INDIANS FINISH THIRD

GIFU (JAPAN): India clinched four medals, including two gold, on the last day at Junior Asian Athletics Championsh­ips to finish third in the standings. Kamalraj Kanagaraj and Ajit Kumar won gold in the men’s triple jump and 5,000m respective­ly while the women’s 4x400m relay team won silver. Jisna Mathew took home bronze in women’s 200m race.

IAF FC WIN LEAGUE

NEWDELHI: Indian Air Force (New Delhi) Football Club clinched the 2017-18 Delhi Soccer Associatio­n (Football Delhi) annual Sr Division Open Clubs Football League Championsh­ip after beating Hindustan FC in the concluding match by a solitary goal scored by Parbhjot Singh in the 31st minute. This was IAF’S sixth title. IAF topped standings with 14 points.

IOA WARNS MINISTRY

NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Associatio­n (IOA) has asked Sports Ministry to initiate a dia- logue on proposed changes in the draft Sports Code, with a veiled warning that any unilateral action on the part of the government could invite another suspension of the country by the Internatio­nal Olympic Committee (IOC).

NEW DELHI: A six-member Indian women’s wrestling team for the Asian Games was announced. The team: Sakshi Malik (50kg), Vinesh (62kg), Pinki (53kg), Pooja Dhanda (57kg), Divya Kakran (68kg) and Kiran (72kg).
