NEWDELHI: Like last year, the maximum number of applications to Delhi University’s undergraduate programmes this year too are from Central Board of Secondary Education students .

Out of over three lakh students, who had registered for admissions this year, almost 2.5 lakh students are from the CBSE board.

Last year too, almost two lakh applicants were from the CBSE board.

“This is a yearly trend. Every year, most of our applicants are from CBSE,” said Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the deputy dean of students welfare.

This may have to do with the fact that most applicants are from Delhi, and Delhi does not have a separate state board, and all government schools and most private schools adhere to the CBSE syllabus.

The Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education came a distant second, and Board of School Education Haryana came in third. UP and Haryana were also the states from where the second and third most applicants, respectively, had applied to undergraduate programmes at DU.

As most applicants are from CBSE, their Class 12 results also have a larger impact on the cutoffs, according to a DU official. The overall pass percentage at the national level increased from last year’s 82.02% to 83.01%, And 12,737 students scored above 95%, 2,646 more than last year.

This increase in the number of students who have scored over 95% in Class 12 may mean that cutoffs are likely to increase this year.
