NZ LEGEND RICHARD HADLEE DIAGNOSED WITH BOWEL CANCER

WELLINGTON: New Zealand great Richard Hadlee has been diagnosed with bowel cancer, but the former paceman is expected to make a full recovery.

Hadlee underwent an operation to remove a tumour after a routine colonoscop­y last month saw him diagnosed with bowel cancer. A statement from Hadlee’s wife, Lady Dianne, said the 66-year-old is expected to recover fully. “It is expected that, in time, he will have a full recovery,” she said.

Hadlee played 86 Tests and took 431 wickets at 22.29. He was also a hard-hitting batsman with a Test career total of 3,124 runs, including two centuries.

AMELIA HITS 232, SETS WOMEN’S ODI RECORD

DUBLIN: New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr on Wednesday shattered Belinda Clark’s 21-year-old record for the highest score in women’s ODI as she smashed 232 not out in a match against Ireland here. The 17-year-old, opening the innings, hit a whopping 31 fours and two sixes in her 145ball unbeaten knock that took her side to 440 for 3 after electing to bat first in the third ODI here.

The earlier record of 229 not out in the name former Australian captain Belinda who had made 229 not out against Denmark in Mumbai in 1997.
