NEWDELHI: Leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with suspended Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kapil Mishra, began an indefinite hunger strike against the sit-in by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues at the Lieutenant Governor’s office, on Friday.

Leader of opposition Vijender Gupta, west Delhi MP Parvesh Verma, and two BJP MLAS Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Jagdish Pardhan launched a counter protest against the AAP government on Wednesday.

Gupta said the ministers would continue their fast until Kejriwal assures adequate water supply to the people of Delhi.

“It is a do-or-die situation. It is a fight between a lair and one who speaks the truth. Lies will definitely be defeated and truth will prevail. We will not move until the government starts functioning. If the government behaves like this, then who will work for the people? Where is the government?,” the BJP leader said.

Pradhan will not join the fast due to health reason, said Gupta.

“It is ridiculous that the CM is calling BJP dharna at Delhi Secretariat illegal when he himself, along with his ministers, illegally occupied Raj Niwas on the pretext of meeting the L-G. It is an act of cowardice on the CM’S part to call for action against officers for letting BJP in the secretariat,” he added.

Protesting BJP leaders and Mishra also wrote a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind, urging him to intervene and direct Kejriwal regarding the constitutional crisis.

“Their childish behaviour has violated all constitutional norms. Stern action from your office is requested to restore governance in the worlds’ largest democracy,” read the letter sent on Friday.
