Man from Delhi commits suicide in Meerut hotel
MEERUT: An employee in the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office of west Delhi committed suicide in a hotel of Sadar Bazar area here on Wednesday . The body was found on Friday.
A suicide note was recovered from the room in which he held a woman colleague of his office responsible for his death.
Police recovered an identity card, a bottle of pesticide, a driving licence and Rs 2,900 from the room. On the basis of these documents, the man was identified as Naveen Kumar, posted as DEO in the DC office of west Delhi.
Naveen hired a room in Karnail hotel here on June 13. He allegedly wrote in his suicide note that he tried to commit suicide on June 12 too but could not gather courage. He then attempted it again the next day.
The hotel staff opened the room with duplicate keys when it remained closed for three days. They found the body of Naveen on the floor and informed the police.
In his note, Naveen held a woman colleague of his office responsible for his death. He wrote that she was compelling him to have physical relations with her and when he refused she levelled false allegation of rape attempt against him.
He wrote that in such circumstances, he was left with no option but to end his life. He also apologised to his wife Manju for ending his life and said that now she had to take care of the children.
ASP Satpal said that the case was being investigated from all possible angles and cops were also trying to ascertain through CCTV footage whether he came to the hotel alone.
He said a team would be sent to investigate the charges levelled against Naveen’s office colleague.
The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination.
