BHOPAL: The police on Saturday arrested the wife and relatives of Dr Shafatullah Khan, who was murdered in his home on Tuesday night.

Khan’s wife Ayesha, 45, had allegedly put out a contract for bobbitising her 55-year-old husband because of Khan’s ways. She was helped by her niece Nandini, 30, and Nandini’s husband Pawan Vishwakarma, 35.

Pawan later told the two men who took the contract to kill Khan instead.

Jabalpur SP Shashikant Shukla said Khan had 12 stab wounds on his chest, and his throat and wrists had been slit.

Shukla said i nitially, it appeared to be a case of loot as the killers had taken away cash and jewellery from the house after locking Ayesha, her daughter and grandson in the bathroom.

However, during questioning, they found discrepancies in answers given by Nandini who later revealed the conspiracy.

According to Shukla, Ayesha married Khan in 1991, but he established relationships with several other women thereafter.

He used to lure young girls by promising them jobs as nurses and then allegedly raped them. He allegedly raped Nandini when she was 11-year- old which resulted in her getting pregnant said Ayesha.

Ayesha claimed that the matter was hushed up. “Things had reached my family and I had to act,” Ayesha told the police.

Pawan, then hired the two men — Rajendra Malviya and Dheeraj — for the job.

They arrived in Jabalpur on June 12 where Ayesha gave them ₹10,000 each to bobbitise Khan but Pawan decided that it would be better to kill him.

Police have arrested Ayesha, Nandini, and Rajendra while Pawan and Dheeraj are absconding. In the first month of the ceasefire, 96 attacks on security forces claimed the lives of 45 security personnel. Ninety-six civilians and 61 terrorists too were killed in the period.

During the entire duration of 185 days, 781 attacks on security forces took place, resulting in the killing of 258 personnel.in the same period, 535 civilians and 630 terrorists too were killed. Fidayeen or sui- cide attacks on the airport as well as the Badami Bagh cantonment in Srinagar took place in the period.

Militancy in the Valley was largely driven by terrorists sent by Pakistan. some of whom were battle-hardened fighters of the Afghan war.

The Dar overture also didn’t last long. Within a year of announcing the ceasefire, Dar was ‘expelled’ by the Hizbul Mujahideen as he held on to his stand that the Kashmir issue should be resolved peacefully. He was assassinated in 2003. The political dialogue initiated by KC Pant didn’t make much headway. The first meeting between separatist leadership and then deputy prime minister LK Advani could take place only in January 2004 and three months later, the government was voted out of power.
