Sports quota trials to start today
NEW DELHI: Delhi University colleges will start conducting sports quota trials for 39 games for admission to undergraduate courses from Friday to June 29.
All colleges have to admit up to 5% students through the sports and extracurricular activities (ECA) quota. For sports quota, there are 12, 423 applicants and the first list of selected candidates will be announced on July 9.
“There are around 1,700 seats in all colleges for sports quota,” said Anil Kumar Kalkal, director of DU’S sports council.
Applicants have to reach 30 minutes before the trials in playing gear. The trials will start at 7 am for some games. The merit list will be announced on July 6 after which document verification and approval of admissions at colleges will be done from July 6 to 9.
Kalkal said the colleges will bring out three admission lists and if seats remain vacant.
Colleges give 60% weightage on the sports trial and 40% weightage on certificates. A student has to get minimum 30 marks in the trials. But students who have represented the country in international games get direct admission.
This year, the university is not accepting state-level participation certificates from candidates. Such certificates will be accepted only if a candidate has secured a position in the game.
A candidate will be given 16 marks for having secured the first position, 14 marks for second and 12 marks for the third position in sports competitions conducted by state sports association, state directorate of education and school boards, as per university rules.
On Thursday, the colleges finished conducting preliminary trails for admission under the ECA quota. Around 17,000 students had applied for the ECA quota for around 1,000 seats across colleges.
