Anirban Lahiri rises to T11 at Travelers golf

CROMWELL (US): Anirban Lahiri produced another solid round of 3-under 67 to position himself at Tied-11, three behind a trio of leaders, at the midway stage of the Travelers Championsh­ip, here. The 30-year-old , still looking for his breakthrou­gh win on the PGA Tour, is now six -under 134 after 36 holes.

PATTAYA: India golfer Vani Kapoor finished the third round of the Ladies European Thailand Championsh­ip carding 2 over 74. With a total score of 5 over 221 over 54 holes, she is currently tied 58th alongwith a Thai golfer.

SANDHU MOVES UP

CHEONAN(KOREA): Ajeetesh Sandhu finally found a bunch of birdies as he carded a 4-under 67 to make a significan­t jump at the Kolon Korea Open Golf Championsh­ip after round three, on Saturday.

Sandhu, lying T-59, after making the cut on the line, moved to T-19 and gave himself a good chance of a Top-10 finish. Defending champion Roger Federer extended his unbeaten run on grass to 20 matches by defeating American qualifier Denis Kudla 7-6(1), 7-5 in the Halle Open semi-finals on Saturday.

The pair exchanged early breaks in overcast conditions before Federer won the tiebreak 7-1. A lapse of concentrat­ion from Kudla in the 10th game allowed Federer to grab the only break point on offer before the Swiss served out the match in just under an hour and a half.

Nine-time Halle champion Federer will next face Croatian Borna Coric in final.

DJOKOVIC TO FACE CILIC

LONDON: Novak Djokovic advanced to his first ATP tour final in almost a year by defeating Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (5), 6-4 at Queen’s Club on Saturday.

The 12-time Grand Slam champion’s last final - and title - also came on a British grass court in Eastbourne last July.

Djokovic will take on Marin Cilic in final after the top-seeded Croatian beat Nick Kyrgios 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).

MAURESMO IS FRANCE DAVIS CUP CAPTAIN

PARIS: Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo will become the first woman to lead France at the Davis Cup over the next two years, the country’s tennis federation said on Saturday. She will replace Yannick Noah as captain. Her counterpar­t for the Fed Cup will be Julien Benneteau.
