NEW DELHI : Sixteen-year-old shooter Saurabh Chaudhary on Tuesday set a Junior World record, scoring 243.7 in 10m air pistol at the Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany. India now have eight gold, one silver and five bronze and continue to top the standings. Anmol Anmol finished fourth with a score of 199.6.

SANDEEP MAKES CUT

SONEPAT: Wrestler Sandeep Tomar staved off stiff competition from the talented Utkarsh Kale to qualify for the Asian Games and World Championship in the 57kg category, even as Rahul Aware opted out of the trials, citing a knee injury.

Sandeep, the 2016 Asian Championship winner, trailed Utkarsh 2-4 after the first round and drifted further with Utkarsh creating another two-point move in the beginning of second round.

However, Sandeep made a strong comeback and rolled his opponent twice to level the score at 6-6 towards the end. Since Sandeep had scored the last points, he was declared the winner.

SAINA IN SECOND ROUND

KUALA LUMPUR: India’s Olympic medallist shuttler Saina Nehwal sailed into the second round of the $700,000 Malaysian Open with a convincing 21-12, 21-16 win over Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong Tuesday. The London Games bronze medallist needed 42 minutes to clear the first hurdle at the Axiata Arena.

BIG WIN FOR INDIA

DUBAI: India romped to another comfortable victory in Kabaddi Masters as they beat Kenya 50-15. Led by their star raiders Rahul Chaudhari and Pardeep Narwal, India gave a torrid time to the Kenyan defence in the first half. Chaudhari scored eight points whereas Pardeep Narwal chipped in with nine points.

India are already through to the semi-finals where they will play Korea. Kenya, on the other hand, ended their campaign without a win and endured a miserable might. Victor Obiero was the lone spark for Kenya.
