L-G tried to stop our appeal in SC: AAP

-

NEWDELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday alleged that the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) had tried to prevent the Delhi government from filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against the 2016 judgment of the Delhi High Court, which had declared the L-G as the supreme administrator of the National Capital.

The party said that the L-G’S office had issued directions to officers not to sign the Delhi government’s affidavit in the case. “Also, no fees were paid to any of the senior advocates who appeared for the Delhi government in the Supreme Court,” the party alleged in a statement.

The L-G’S office did not comment on the issue.

The AAP on Sunday also went on to trade charges against the Centre and the L-G saying that a committee had been “arbitrarily” set-up without any law to scrutinise the Delhi government files and 400 files were ‘seized’ at L-G office for six months.

The Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) on Friday had said it would be against the law to take a final view on matter related to services as a decision was still pending before the regular bench of the Supreme Court.

The services department, which deals with transfers and postings of officers has become a bone of contention between the AAP government and the Centre, as both have different readings of the July 4 Supreme Court verdict which said that the L-G was bound by the ‘aid and advice’ of the council of ministers.

Reacting to MHA’S statements, AAP said, “The Centre is trying to hide the illegal actions committed by the L-G’S office during the last two years following the Delhi High Court judgement. The L-G’S office also tried to interfere with the functioning of the Delhi legislative assembly.”
